TrailStar Maximus

The TrailStar Maximus pushes performance with every step. Designed for intense activity that requires speed and precision, the TrailStar Maximus functions as well in the gym as it does outdoors. These lightweight and secure sandals break the boundaries of what you expect from minimalist footwear.

Sole

The Maximus use an 8mm Vibram® Newflex sole coupled with your choice of UltraGrip or Tobacco Brown Goatskin Leather footbed for a 9mm total stack height. Vibram® Newflex is made from a blend of rubber and EVA to form a durable soling material with aggressive tread. At 3mm thicker than the Warrior sole, you will get a much more rugged sandal that is capable of diffusing the feeling of rocks, sticks, and the like from underfoot. The Maximus sole is suitable for a host of situations from the trail to the gym. Pair with the UltraGrip footbed for use in the harshest elements, or select the Goatskin Leather for more comfort in drier conditions.

TrailStar Lacing System

Increased security from over-the-foot style lacing is the hallmark of TrailStars. The TrailStar Lacing system features a specially made forefoot strap made from Toray® Ultrasuede and a nylon mesh. The result is an extremely comfortable material with the strength properties of webbing. The forefoot strap is completely adjustable and anchored through the bottom of the sole. Final adjustments are made through a tension lock on the outer heel post. All forefoot straps are cut-to-fit after adjustment. The heel section of the lacing system employs two heel posts covered in Ultrasuede for comfort. Heel strap adjustments are locked into place using Velcro®. The result is an extremely comfortable and secure lacing system that is ready for adventure!

Truly Barefoot

I love these sandals! Lightweight, well made, and a true feeling of being barefoot with just a little protection under the feet! I have the 9mm sole with leather insole and the leather provides a very comfortable surface for the foot! The sizing is perfect using the Shamma measuring guide. I am a regular size men’s 12, and the Shamma 12 is perfect for me!

They pass the pointy rock test

I have been jogging in Vibrams for a few years. I got the Trailstars to help get rid of the runner's tan on my feet and to deal with the pointy rocks on my street. They are thick enough to cushion from the rocks but thin and flexible enough that I get an acceptable ground feel and don't mind driving in them. These sandals are one with my sole(s).

Top Quality and Worth the Wait!

I’ve waited years to buy these sandals, and I’m so glad I finally did! They’re incredibly flexible, comfortable, and give that true barefoot feeling I was looking for. The lacing system uses a velvety material instead of nylon—something I wasn’t sure about at first—but it’s surprisingly very comfortable and feels great against the skin. The footbed and overall materials are clearly top quality - no break in time required.

If you’ve been on the fence about these, get them - you won't regret it!

1 year later - Lower Mid =(

Okay, here I am one year later with my review. I was REALLY EXCITED about the toe loop. The wait to get the shoes is kind of long but they are hand made and they tell you that. No complaints about that.

Width - I had thought these had some marketing about having wider soles and maybe I imagined that. If you have wide feet these aren't super for it. My foot rests slightly on top of where the strap goes into the bottom of the shoe and after awhile... that really starts to hurt. It's like having a very tiny smooth rock pushed against the side of your foot. Putting a bandaid there helps a lot with that.

Durability - I work around a lot of gravel (which if you're hiking I'd imagine you'd find lots of tiny rocks too). You can see from the pics above that there isn't anything that protects the underside plastic pieces. If a small rock or grit gets in between the plastic piece and the location its partially sunken into it slowly cuts the material until one day it snaps. The first time it happened within a couple of months of getting the shoes and then it happened again 8 months later.

Things I Do Like - The toe strap. I like how they're snug and don't move around. They're super easy to get on and off. The 9mm thickness is fuckin' perfect.

Overall - Sadly I probably won't buy another pair once this next set of straps break. They only get about 9 months out of a year when its warm enough to wear them so having them break twice in that period of wear time with just a lot of daily walking is very disheartening.
